Water testing helps separate a water-quality problem from a mechanical problem. Avoid driving vehicles or heavy equipment over buried water lines. If the well is near a field, mark its location clearly so it is not struck by machinery. Keep chemicals, fuel, pesticides, and animal waste away from the well area. These habits protect both the equipment and the groundwater supply.
